Why Plastic Pallets?
Over recent years there have been enormous improvements in plastic pallet design. With better choice than ever, plastic pallets offer a cleaner, safer and tougher alternative to other pallet types.
Just some of the benefits of plastic pallets include:
- 100% size and strength consistency
- Long lasting – 10 times longer than wooden pallets
- An investment for the future
- Recyclable, environmentally friendly
- Exempt from ISPM15 regulations
- Safer handling, without nails and splinters
- No mould or dust contamination issues
- Suitable for hygienic areas
- Easily cleaned
- Impervious to moisture, weak acids and alkalis
100% size and strength consistency
Plastic pallets are moulded under extreme pressure in highly polished moulds, ensuring consistent dimensional accuracy and loading capacities.
Long lasting – 10 times longer than wooden pallets
In a closed loop distribution scenario, with normal handling and loading within design limits, a plastic pallet has a potential life span of up to, and even exceeding 10 years. When compared with a wooden pallet, this extended life could be as much as 10 times longer.
An investment for the future
Although the initial investment in plastic pallets is higher than the wooden alternative, in a closed loop scenario, plastic pallets are recognised as an Asset, and as such their cost should be depreciated over their working life. In this way, taking an average medium duty plastic pallet, the cost to the operator can be as low as PSTG 0.05 (US Dollars 0.07) per week.
Recyclable, environmentally friendly
Environmental issues and questions regarding the sustainability of forestry have encouraged many users to move away from traditional wooden pallets to plastic pallets manufactured from recycled materials – and which themselves are recyclable.
Exempt from ISPM15 regulations
Plastic pallets are exempt from International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No.15 (ISPM15), which addresses the need to treat and mark wooden pallets shipped between countries, offering a hassle-free option for export consignments.
Safer handling, without nails and splintersPlastic pallets have no nails, sharp edges or splinters, and no risk of loose component parts breaking free under manual lifting conditions and causing injury to operatives.
No mould or dust contamination issues
There are no hidden pockets or areas where dirt and dust can collect, so plastic pallet surfaces remain contaminant-free. The ‘blue stain mould’ that can appear in new wooden pallets, especially under conditions of high humidity, is unsightly and unhygienic.
Suitable for hygienic areas
In hygienic areas and clean rooms, cross contamination issues from mould and dust inherent in wooden pallets is of great concern. All plastic pallets remove these concerns, however, our specialist Hygienic Pallets have totally smooth, sealed surfaces, removing any possibility of impurities accumulating in the pallet's structure.
Plastic pallets can be repeatedly steam cleaned or washed, to remove any airborne dust or spilt products, which accumulate on the pallets over a period of time.
Impervious to moisture, weak acids and alkalis
Regardless of operating conditions, plastic pallets will not absorb moisture even under the most adverse conditions. Generally, both Polyethylene and Polypropylene pallets are unaffected by weak acids and alkalis.
